about

THE EXPATRIATE AMPLIFICATION PROJECT is a sultry sonic map, stretching across the jazz, soul, urban, pop and neofunk genres. Poet and composer, Lenelle Moïse, created fourteen songs with two loop machines, experimenting with vocal percussion, rolling trills, mouth-made clicks, high-pitched squeaks, melody, harmony and breath. Moïse’s smoky contralto joins forces with Karla Mosley’s winged soprano to sing playfully poly-rhythmic, entrancing, sensual and politically-conscious music. Originally written for Moïse’s critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway play Expatriate, the lyrics explore themes of homeland, love, sexual tension, addiction, survival, flight and freedom. THE EXPATRIATE AMPLIFICATION PROJECT is a distinct and dynamic offering of bluesy ballads, scorching torch songs and shoulder-pumping, heartbeat-driven duets.

"Creatively brave...the execution and talent is audible in every breath...[Lenelle] Moïse brings all the jazz, all the serious, all the heart and soul that is music and pours it over this album like molten honey. [Karla] Mosley adds to this the passion, the fervour, the ambition the angels. When these two combine, as on the Body Part Song it lifts the listener as much as an Andreas Scholl Agnes Dei and perhaps more, because inside of Expatriate is more than training and perfection, there is life, lessons and a search for personal liberation." -Next Best Thing

"Lenelle Moïse's music...has a beat that gets under your skin, fascinating rhythm, and a real theatrical power." -Backstage

"Jazz, hip-hop, poetry, pop rock...powerhouse singing." -Curtain Up

"Armed only with their phenomenal voices and a JamMan loop machine, Moïse and Mosley perform Expatriate's electrifying original musical score. Moïse's sensual, velvety timbre is a sublime counterpart to Mosley's glorious soprano, and her composition is hauntingly beautiful." -Go Magazine
